It was my first time in Cebu and it was one of the best trips I’ve had so far. It was both an adventure and a downtime for me. This trip has been postponed last year because of work schedule clashes. I can’t believe I waited so long to go there, ang ganda! It is a spectacular place filled with all things wonderful — sea, white sand, incredible marine life, and cool people.
My friends and I didn’t stay in Cebu City but in the southern part of Cebu — Moalboal.
A relative currently working in Cebu recommended that place to us and we found out that Moalboal is one of the best diving spots in the Philippines. Straight from the airport, Anna and I jumped on the bus heading to Moalboal. The bus ride was long enough for us to doze off and wake up and we’re not even in there. It was I think 3 to 4 hours.
We stayed at Quo Vadis Dive Resort. We bought our hotel in Expedia and thought it was cheap (Php 1600/night). Only to find out that there are hostels that are only Php 500/night. Anyway, our hotel is a great spot because they have cool amenities and in-house dive shop.
As we are not certified divers, we only did snorkeling and saw equally wonderful things as well. For our first day, we arrived late in the afternoon and settled on the pool side to drink beer and relax. Early morning the next day, we went snorkelling and went to White Beach in a rented boat with a bunch of Italians.
I don’t know how to swim and to jump in open water is such a daunting task for me even with a life vest. It took me a while before I finally dove in. In as much as the view underwater is amazing (turtles, fishes, corals…) my fear of drowning took over my entire body and I immediately got back in the boat. I’m extremely seasick so I wasn’t feel great that entire time. Too bad I couldn’t enjoy much.
After a day in the sun, it’s time for us to take the bus to Oslob.
If you are an avid diver or just love the sea so much, Moalboal is for you. It is the place to be adventurous and to chill out by the sea.
