Suitcase Diaries: Sawasdee Ka, Bangkok!

My first two weeks of 2016 was spent in Bangkok for work. I have a new boss and the first order of business was to visit our country offices in Southeast Asia. Our first stop, for convenience reasons, was Bangkok.

See, I wasn’t thrilled to cut my holidays short and jump back to work. I wasn’t ready to give up my lounging-in-PJs-and-lying-in-bed-all-day life. But hey, it’s Bangkok and I love Thai food and shopping, it was a wonderful welcome back greeting.

Side note: this was also a timely trip because I needed the space to think of everything that was going on in my life and calm the hell down. I was grateful for the space and I came back to Manila with a calmer and more peaceful disposition.

Our office was deserted on the first week of January. It was only me, my boss, and a handful of other hardworking colleagues.

While my weekdays were dedicated to work, I seized the weekend to get lost with my trusty and cuddly companion, Muymuy.

Chatuchak Market

On Saturday, we went to Chatuchak Market, a huge local weekend market that has almost everything but is like a maze. It’s easy to get lost inside and it would be challenging if you’re not into walking a lot for the love of shopping.

Typically, I don’t stay in Chatuchak all day. It’s humid and crowded with tourists. I had no particular thing to buy so I walked mindlessly for about 3 hours. As always, I ended up buying a bunch of clothes and a few other cheap ass gadget accessories.

After walking tirelessly for what seems to be forever, chow time! Food’s everywhere in Chatuchak, you won’t get hungry. You can even eat while shopping.

Shopping tip: When you see something you want, buy it. Chances are, you won’t find that stall again.

Old Town Bangkok

On Sunday, we went exploring Old Town Bangkok via the river boat express (linked to BTS Saphan Kwai Station). I was only able to check out The Grand Palace and Wat Pho.

There are a lot of other sights in this area but I started my day late so most of the temples were already closed or closing when I got there.

Oh, and I was quite lucky to watch the sunset on the boat ride back to the BTS Station.
