Suitcase Diaries: Surf’s Up in Dipaculao, Aurora

At 3AM while still drunk from all the Christmas festivities, my cousins were planning to go on a spontaneous road trip to Baler at that hour. While we almost got in the car and drive away, we couldn’t. We decided to leave the next day instead when we are in a better disposition to drive and travel.

The drive going there was a long one, 7 hours, because roads were still wrecked from the recent typhoon and landslide. I thought we were going to Sabang Beach in Baler but…we went to a secluded area just 30 minutes away from Baler. It’s called Lipit Beach in Dipaculao, Aurora. We stayed in a modest resort called Hermanos Leisure Farm and Surf Camp which is owned by my Tito’s friend.

It was beautiful. It also felt like the whole place is ours because we were the only ones there. Awesome!

And, I FOUND A NEW SURF SPOT!

As soon as we arrived, I went to the beach and rode the waves. I surfed everyday we were there. I think I have officially fallen in love with surfing.

My cousins enjoyed the beach too even if they didn’t surf. One of my younger cousins tried surfing and he was able to ride a wave after only a few tries!

Kary is my surf buddy for the trip.

On the 2nd day, I woke up really early to catch the sunrise. The locals told us the night before that this is the exact spot where the sun rises everyday.

They were right. The view was magnificent. I could see the sunrise from my room but of course I went out because I want to see it up close.

While the sunset wasn’t as breathtaking, the hues were captivating to the eyes and calming to the soul.

Before we left too, we did a bonfire to grill marshmallows and hotdogs. The kids (and I) enjoyed this!

This was the 2nd best trip of my 2015 (the best one is a spontaneous secret getaway). The tranquility, peace, and calm that the place exudes appealed to my healing heart. This is the trip that I needed to cap off the year that was — in a quiet beach, with my favorite people, surfing til my arms and whole body hurt.
